The state of Texas has significant influence in our nation’s political process as it holds some of the most votes in the electoral college out of all of the states in the union. There has not been a chance to turn the state over to the hands of the Democrats in the better part of half of the century. With the recent divorce meant of politician Beto O’Rourke, there is finally hope that this can be changed. Beto O’Rourke is a politician with significant experience in the American democratic system. He has served three terms in Congress and is set to run in opposition to Texan Sen. Ted Cruz this year. Ted Cruz is a member of the big-money 20. The Big-money 20 is a group of politicians targeted by End Citizens United who have all shown a vested interest in corporations and the mega-donors that they have received donations from.
It will be a difficult battle for Beto O’Rourke to win political office during the years midterm election. In the state of Texas there are significantly more registered members of the Republican Party then there are of the Democratic Party. Not only are there more Republicans but the turnout for Democratic voters during the midterm elections has historically been lower than that of Republicans. Beto O’Rourke does not have the same level of name recognition that Ted Cruz has, but despite the odds that are against him he has managed to raise more money than Ted Cruz during the last three months and is set to provide quite a challenge for the Texan Republican.
