Luiz Carlos Trabuco has run the gamut of serving at Bradesco’s major divisions and has accrued an incredible range of experience which few can rival anywhere. He has faithfully served the company as he journeyed down his successful path. A crucial turning point in the career of Trabuco, as he is commonly called, was when he was the President of Bradesco’s insurance division.
Here, he came into his own as a top banking executive and positioned himself to lead one of Brazil’s largest private banks. Bradesco and its employees, customers, and shareholders are the clear beneficiaries of his rise.
Trabuco’s tenure as the President of the insurance division was from 2003-2009 and here he excelled in his performance and emerged as the frontrunner to succeed Márcio Cypriano as the CEO. The insurance division grew their profits substantially under Trabuco’s management and contributed a large percentage of the company’s bottom line prosperity.
The industry took note and twice he was named as the Insurance Personality of the Year. Trabuco helped increase Bradesco’s market leadership in insurance and they became the dominant player in Brazil and Latin America. In light of such stellar performance, his name was universally acclaimed as the leading candidate for the CEO position. Highly placed executives within Bradesco spoke well of him and leading industry figures outside the company did too.
In 2009, Luiz Carlos Trabuco was elevated to the CEO job and he took over leadership at a critical juncture. The financial world was gripped by recession and there was a marked reduction in business activity. Furthermore, Bradesco had lost their position as market leader to their rival Itaú Unibanco.
Trabuco, in the midst of these troubles, provided a steady hand of leadership and brought Bradesco through the immediate softness of the economy. He reoriented Bradesco to core functions of increasing revenues by organic growth, adding branches, and focusing on outstanding customer service. He was by no means limited to these avenues, however.
In 2015, Trabuco summoned his expertise and concocted a breathtaking deal, which put Bradesco back in the running for market leadership. They acquired the Brazilian branch of HSBC for US $ 5.2 billion and it provided Bradesco with the equivalent of six years of organic growth. The deal was roundly applauded and it earned Trabuco a singular honor as he was named the Entrepreneur of the Year in Finance by DINHEIRO.
The prestige and great responsibility that accompanies the job of CEO at Bradesco are handled in a deft manner by Trabuco. He regularly consults with leading political and financial figures regarding massive projects in Brazil. With their extraordinary breadth of resources, Bradesco has a far-reaching impact in Brazil and elsewhere.
Luiz Carlos Trabuco has spent his entire career with Bradesco and he knows their business culture like few others. He has helped craft this system and has made serious contributions by the use of his innovative thought leadership. He was seriously considered for the post of Finance Minister at the national level, but declined the offer wishing to remain with Bradesco.
One innovation put into place by Trabuco was his establishment of a corporate university to develop the future leadership of Bradesco. This provided him with the means to advance those worthy employees with promotions and to give them a greater voice in the company.
Trabuco is soft-spoken in his demeanor and carries a wide smile with him. He avoids an ostentatious display of wealth and prefers to be low-key. He is married and he and his wife have raised three children. He has dedicated his working career to the health and well-being of Bradesco and its employees and customers.
